INDOOR SPORTS
GRADE: 9, 10, 11, 12
CREDITS: Pass/Fail
Indoor sports is an elective semester course broken down into three, six week activity sessions of badminton, volleyball or bowling. This course will introduce the historical development, rules, regulations and playing procedures of the activities. The course instruction gives an overview of skills, principles and techniques. An informal evaluation of techniques, progression of skills and performance are incorporated into the class instruction. This is a pass/fail course.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION/HEALTH
GRADE: Required for all Grade 10
CREDITS: Pass/Fail
The physical education and health course is a required semester course for all sophomore students. Topics in the health curriculum include CPR, diet and nutrition, eating disorders, personal safety, HIV/AIDS awareness, substance abuse and suicide prevention. The physical education portion of this course includes swimming, volleyball and badminton. This is a pass/fail course.

CARDIO STRENGTH TRAINING (FORMERLY STEP & WEIGHT)
GRADE: 9, 10, 11, 12
CREDITS: Pass/Fail
Cardio Strength Training is an elective semester course to maintain or improve your fitness levels in the areas of cardiovascular, muscular and flexibility fitness. Various units include striding (brisk walking), weight training, aqua aerobics, step aerobics and yoga. Instruction will be given on the fundamentals, principles and safety procedures in the execution of weight training and proper use of the cardiovascular equipment. Additionally, basic principles of exercise physiology and anatomy of the skeletal and muscular systems will be included. This is a pass/fail course.

INSTRUCTIONAL SWIMMING
GRADE: 9, 10, 11, 12
CREDITS: Pass/Fail
This is an instructional semester course that includes swimming techniques for freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, sidestroke, entries into the pool (off the blocks) and competitive turns. This course is designed to improve your aquatic and basic water safety skills and enhance your overall fitness level. This is a pass/fail course.

INTRODUCTION TO YOGA
GRADE: 9, 10, 11, 12
CREDITS: Pass/Fail
Introduction to Yoga is an elective semester course that will explore the practice of Yoga. This course introduces different forms of Yoga including Ashtanga, Bikram, Hatha and Karma Yoga. Each session includes warming up, stretching, poses, and meditation. The course instruction gives an overview of fitness and mindfulness. An informal evaluation of techniques, progression of skills, and performance are incorporated into the class instruction. This is a pass/fail course.

WOMEN ON WEIGHTS (WOW)
GRADE: 9, 10, 11, 12
CREDITS: Pass/Fail

Women on Weights is an elective semester course to maintain or improve your fitness levels in the areas of muscular and flexibility fitness. Instructors will demystify the weight room, providing step-by-step work on each machine, reviewing fundamentals, principles and safety procedures in the execution of weight training and proper use of the equipment. Students will also increase their flexibility through a variety of stretching exercises (pilates, yoga, fitness testing) and strengthen muscles through weight training in and out of the weight room with free weights and body pump bars. Students will learn to love and appreciate their muscles as metabolism boosting machines! Additionally, basic principles of nutrition, exercise physiology, anatomy of the skeletal and muscular systems will be included. This is a pass/fail course.

RECREATIONAL SPORTS
GRADE: 9, 10, 11, 12
CREDITS: Pass/Fail

Recreational Sports is an elective semester course. Units of instruction include swimming, badminton, bowling, and volleyball. This course will introduce the historical development, rules, regulations and playing procedures of the activities. The course instruction gives an overview of skills, principles and techniques required for participation. An informal evaluation of techniques, progression of skills and performance are incorporated into the class instruction. This is a pass/fail course.
